This article has been created to demonstrate how to change various wireless settings to ensure that your wireless network on the Buffalo is secure.
Connecting to the router
Open your preferred Internet browser and type the IP address of the router and press return by default the IP address is http://192.168.11.1/
Enter the username of root, use a blank password unless you have specified another
SSID
The SSID broadcasts by default a name that identifies the router and manufacturer, this can lead to known exploits being used to compromise your network. Changing the SSID not only allows for instant
identification of your own network, it stops people identifying your router.
Click the Wireless Config tab at the top of the page then the Basic sub section.
Change the SSID option to the user specified one and enter a name memorable to yourself this will be the new SSID.
Click Apply at the bottom of the page to save the settings.
Click the Click here link to refresh the page.
Wireless Authentication and Encryption
Once the page has refreshed click the Security sub section.
To ensure that you have the highest level of security change the following settings
Wireless Authentication – WPA2-PSK
Wireless encryption – TKIP or AES
The WPA-PSK (Pre-Shared Key) is the key that you will have to enter on devices that you which to use your wireless network this should be something memorable but not too short, the shorter the key the more
chance someone may access the network without permission.
At the bottom of the page click Apply.
Your wireless network is now secured.
